The group will read, study, and discuss books and papers by distinguished authors and researchers that explore some of the seminal concepts and clinical issues in neuropsychoanalytically informed psychotherapy. Readings for May 3, 2024 are: Kernberg, Otto (2022). Some implications of new developments in neurobiology for psychoanalytic object relations theory.  Neuropsychoanalysis, Vol. 24, Number 1, May 2022, pp. 3-12. This paper is the “target article” in the journal Neuropsychoanalysis.  In response to the target article, these three short “commentary” articles follow:

Commentary by Fredric N. Busch, pp. 17-20
Commentary by Leon Hoffman, Primacy of affects in human development, pp. 31-34.
Commentary by Nancy McWilliams, pp. 181-216

Learning Objectives: After attending the presentation, participants will be able to
– Describe the revisions that Kernberg is proposing for the psychoanalytic drive theory.
– Describe the revisions that Kernberg is proposing for the theory of the dynamic unconscious.
