This program honors Loveleen Posmentier for her many contributions to psychoanalytic training and the community. In her presentation, Loveleen will focus on her journey as a psychoanalyst over many decades. She will highlight the essence of her experiences in psychoanalysis, in terms of mourning and separation from her family and her country – India. What stands out is the process of development of a psychoanalytic mind, a structure for learning to reflect and talk, and, furthermore, how that led to building a life with meaningful connections, struggles, blossoming of a new life, and a psychoanalytic identity. Other significant factors relate to the continuity of psychoanalysis through one’s life, and how different stages in life and their challenges bring up the need for reevaluating and reexamining one’s internal landscape with the help of an analyst/mentor.
Learning Objectives: After attending this presentation, participants will be able to
– Describe the process of immigration, building a new life and a professional identity.
– Identify aspects of mourning and separation that take place when emigrating and developing oneself.
