NPAP Spring Continuing Education PROGRAM

The Edith Laufer Neuropsychoanalytic Clinical Study Group

Presenter

Robert Wolf, DPsa, LP

Contributor

Walter Nieves, MD, Consulting Neurologist

Description

The Reading Group will read, study, and discuss books and papers by distinguished authors and researchers that explore some of the seminal concepts and clinical issues in neuropsychoanalytically informed psychotherapy. During the 2025-26 academic year our focus will be on early infant development.

For this meeting, we will discuss two chapters in:

Beebe, Beatrice & Frank Lachmann (2002) Infant Research and Adult Treatment: Co-Constructing Interactions

Chapter 2: A Dyadic Systems View, pp. 21-44

Chapter 3: Interactive Reorganization of Self-Regulation, pp. pp.45-64

While these chapters focus on the principles of interaction between infant and caregiver, Beebe and Lachmann illustrate how these principles can be applied to the therapeutic interaction between therapist and patient, both children and adults.

Learning Objectives

After attending the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Describe bi-directional influence.
  • Describe how failures in self-regulation affect the quality of interactive regulation.
  • Explain why interaction reorganization of self-regulation is the primary theme of therapeutic action.

Open to
