NPAP Summer CE Series

Recognition and Disturbances of Recognition

in Infant Research and Adult Treatment

Presenters

Joyce Rosenberg, D.Min, LP

Discussant: Jennifer Harper, M.Div, LP

Moderator

Tom Taylor, S.T.M., LCSW-R, PhD

Description

The presenter undertook a survey of Freudian-trained psychoanalysts to learn whether and how they work with patients’ associations and feelings about God, religion, faith and spirituality. The author’s survey found that while the majority of analysts did not feel their training prepared them to work with patients’ feelings about God, religion, faith and spirituality, the analysts nonetheless felt prepared to do so. Their religious backgrounds, independent study and extracurricular courses helped prepare them, but they had varying reactions and approaches to their patients’ God and religious material.
