About the Presenter

Paul Moore is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice in Dublin 2, Kilkenny, and Carlow. He is a Training Analyst with the Irish Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, providing personal therapy for candidates in clinical psychotherapy training. Paul also lectures in psychotherapy at Trinity College Dublin. Paul Moore has over fifteen years’ experience as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. He is a former Chairperson and Board Member of the Irish Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. He has recently become Course Director of the M.Sc. in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin. Paul Moore is a member of the British Psychological Society (MBPSS), the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (Reg., Pract.), and the Irish Forum for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Reg., Pract.).

In addition, Paul Moore specializes in psychotherapy for people who have experienced a brain injury, people on the autism spectrum, and family members of people affected by these issues. Paul Moore provides a therapeutic consultancy service to professionals in the areas of acquired brain injury, autism, social work, and social care work.

Description

This advanced seminar series offers an in-depth exploration of neuropsychoanalysis tailored to experienced clinicians. Combining current neuroscientific research with psychoanalytic theory and clinical insight, the series provides a comprehensive framework for integrating brain-based findings into psychodynamic work.

Each monthly session will consist of a presentation, discussion of readings, and reflective clinical dialogue.

Learning Objectives

After attending the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and explain the key concepts of neuropsychoanalysis and their foundations in contemporary neuroscience.
  • Enumerate the ways in which we can apply neuropsychoanalytic thinking to clinical material, integrating neuroscientific understanding with psychodynamic formulations.
  • Explain the criteria used to critically evaluate emerging theoretical developments at the interface of neuroscience and psychoanalysis, including the free energy principle and computational models of the mind.
