“Madness and the social link”: The writings of Jean Max Gaudilliere’s lecture notes by Françoise Davoine will be the focus of the lecture series. The central theme is an exploration of psychosis connected to trauma, such as war and other historical catastrophic events. Transference-countertransference phenomena specific to schizophrenia, for example, stoppage of time, and reliability of the other will be discussed, Clinical vignettes will illustrate psychoanalytic concepts in relation to trauma.
Learning Objectives: After attending the presentation, participants will be able to
– Identify stoppage of time in schizophrenia as it is manifest in the transference and countertransference.
– Explain the singularity of transference in schizophrenia and among traumatized warriors as belonging to the same field in which can be found the destruction of the Other of good faith and the dissolution of trust.
– Explain psychotic processes in the course of psychoanalytic transference, as an exploration of catastrophic events in history.
– Describe how patient and analyst are co-researchers, exploring and challenging the possible existence of a reliable other.
