The group will read, study, and discuss books and papers by distinguished authors and researchers that explore some of the seminal concepts and clinical issues in neuropsychoanalytically informed psychotherapy. At this meeting, we will read the second half of the following book: Seven and a Half Lessons About the Brain, by Lisa Feldman Barrett, PhD, Chapter 4, 5, 6 and 7, Pages 64-125.

This book is a readable, clinically-based compilation of contemporary research and theory related to affect regulation – how humans regulate their emotions. As a central element of optimal human development and functioning, affect regulation is a central focus of psychoanalysis and other forms of psychotherapy. While this book draws heavily on the theories of Allan Schore, it integrates attachment theory, affective neurobiology, cognitive neurobiology, mother-infant studies, and developmental psychoanalysis.

All participants are advised to purchase a copy.
