A patient may return to treatment after many years when both the analyst and the patient are in a different stage of life. What does this mean to the Analyst? What does it mean to the patient? Is there a second chance? Or, does the Analytic couple return to a knot or place of stasis when the analysis ceased in the past? The vitality of the psychoanalytic theoretical world has impacted all of us. The analyst will have changed, developed and may be immersed in new thinking–or not. This, in itself, has impact on the meeting of the returning patient and the analyst.

Learning Objectives: After attending the presentation, participants will be able to

– Describe the transference and countertransference phenomena that develops when the patient returns to treatment.
– Explain resistances that may be hidden in situations where the patient returns.

Open to
NPAP members & candidates I no cost
non-members I $30

1.5 CE contact hours will be granted to participants with documented attendance and complete evaluation form. It is the responsibility of the participants seeking CE credits to comply with these requirements. Upon completion, a Certificate of Attendance will be emailed to all participants.
