This memoir describes the relationship between Richards’ personal life and professional life inside and outside of psychoanalysis. The influence of his Russian Jewish father, an early Bolshevik who emigrated to America in the 1920s, contributed to his efforts for fairness and inclusion in psychoanalytic training. His independent and original psychoanalytic writings span Contemporary Freudian Conflict Theory, more recent theoretical developments, analysis of psychoanalytic institutions and their histories, and the development of the thought collectives that make up psychoanalysis. His life and its events are a fascinating look at an analyst’s self-identity and prolific professional life.
